Intergraph and Customers to Present SmartMarine 3D Design Use and Successes at International Shipbuilding Conference

Next generation, data-centric engineering and design solution increases productivity and accelerates vessel completion

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Intergraph(R), the global leader in enterprise engineering software, and customers including Samsung Heavy Industries and COSCO Shipyard Group, will present how its next-generation SmartMarine(R) Enterprise 3D design solution increases productivity and accelerates vessel completion at the 14th International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding (ICCAS) Sept. 1-3 in Shanghai, China.

The presentations will include: "Automated Drawing Production From 3D Models" by Tom Szoka, Intergraph, and Jinsup Cheong, Samsung Heavy Industries; and "SmartMarine 3D Implementation at COSCO Shipyard Group" by Gu Xiang, COSCO Shipyard Group Co. Ltd. In addition, Intergraph marine software subject matter experts will conduct two other presentations during the conference: "Model Data-Reuse and Experienced Ship Design" by Yann Limon-Duparcmeur and Cecile M. Turnbull; and "Geometric Constructions: The Next Level of Rule-Based Design Automation" by Kristin Cochran and Patrice Blanchard.

SmartMarine Enterprise is an integrated solutions suite that provides the design, construction, materials, and engineering data management capabilities needed for the creation, safe operation and maintenance and capital Project Lifecycle Management (cPLM) of ships and offshore devices. SmartMarine 3D is the data-centric, rule-driven design component of the multidiscipline SmartMarine Enterprise portfolio for streamlining design processes while preserving existing data and making it more useable/re-useable over the operation, maintenance and modification life cycle of a device. The design software has proved to reduce costs and shorten project schedules and couples engineering, automatic drawings generation, production planning and manufacturing.

ICCAS is an annual conference that reviews operational experience from existing computer applications in the design and build of ships and offshore structures, as well as examines the advances in information technology which have contributed to increased productivity in both shipbuilding and maritime operations.

Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power and Marine president, said, "ICCAS 2009 will provide an opportunity to see firsthand the quality results that SmartMarine 3D enables our customers to achieve. We look forward with our customers to sharing why Intergraph is rapidly becoming the preferred solution for the world's leading shipbuilders and offshore designers."

Intergraph will demonstrate SmartMarine 3D 2009, the newest version of its multidiscipline, integrated design software at ICCAS booth #9.

An Intergraph white paper, capital Project Lifecycle Management (cPLM) vs. Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) for Shipbuilding, Marine and Offshore Industries, also will be released at the ICCAS conference. The paper, which includes an introduction by Professor Jang-Hyun Lee, Ph.D. with the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at Inha University in Incheon, South Korea, explores the technical and business differentiators between cPLM and PLM. It also looks into the inherent differences between the two technologies as they apply to the shipbuilding, marine and offshore industries. The paper is available for download at

ICCAS 2009 will be the 14th International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding. The 2009 conference will be held in Shanghai, China, September 1-3, 2009

The conference will review operational experience from existing computer applications in the design and build of ships and offshore structures. It will also examine the advances in Information Technology which have contributed to increased productivity in both shipbuilding and maritime operations; including increasing co-operative working between shipyards, marine equipment and system manufacturers, engineering partners and shipping companies.
