Innovate or Evaporate
Cambridge, MA, March 14, 2006 -- Daratech, Inc., the market research and technology assessment firm, reports that the company’s recent PLANT conference highlighted the significant challenges and possible solutions facing the process & power industry. The cry for change came from around the world; from keynote speakers Brian Chang, who spoke of Asia’s process and shipbuilding industries being at a critical juncture and the need to modernize, invest in collaborative technologies, change business practices, and enable innovation across the organization, to John Voeller, Senior Vice President of Black & Veatch and member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, who said that "the speed of change around the world is faster than what our industry has previously been able to embrace."
Faced with these challenges, there was no shortage of ideas on potential solution strategies from speakers and attendees alike. Interoperability was a dominant theme throughout the conference and a major topic at the ever-popular CEO debate. Interested attendees watched as Richard Longdon (AVEVA Group), Greg Bentley (Bentley Systems, Inc.) and Gerhard Sallinger (Intergraph Corporation Process, Power & Marine) debated, among other things, their companies’ stance on openness and interoperability, their respective standards initiatives, issues about work sharing, and promising new technologies. A working group was also held on issues surrounding the adoption of ISO15926, and was headed by Frank-Peter Ritsche of Framatome ANP Germany. It drew a large and lively crowd, from which two independent and ongoing interest groups have formed around building participation and consensus on the topic.
The next daratechPLANT2007 conference is scheduled for January 24-26, 2007. For information, go to
