LSI Logic Announces Low Profile SATA II 3Gb/s MegaRAID(R) Adapter

New eight-port adapter targets high-density and space-limited rackmount server environments.

MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced immediate availability of its low-profile, SATA II 3Gb/s MegaRAID adapter to the channel. The newest addition to the MegaRAID family, this low-profile adapter is ideal for cost-sensitive and space-limited storage environments.

"Customers seeking a reliable internal RAID solution for high data- throughput storage applications will benefit from the performance and scalability found with this new MegaRAID adapter," said Luca Bert, director DAS product management, LSI Logic. "Offering data transfer rates of up to 3Gb/s per port in a low-profile form factor, the SATA II 3Gb/s adapter addresses the growing demand for RAID in high-density rackmount chassis environments."

The MegaRAID SATA 300-8XLP adapter, with a 133 MHz PCI-X host interface, features eight SATA II ports and 128 MB of onboard DDR I cache. The adapter is fully backward compatible with all SATA II 1.5Gb/s drives and supports the full Serial ATA Revision 2.5 Specification. Key features available with the adapter include: Native Command Queuing (NCQ), enclosure management (SAF-TE), individual drive activity and fault LED headers that allow users to view the status of hard drives through LEDs on the chassis, staggered spin-up, hot plug and port multiplier.

The management software suite included with the adapter includes powerful management tools that allow users to efficiently configure, monitor and manage RAID systems locally or over a network. A remote battery option, sold separately, can protect the integrity of the cached data, providing backup power for up to 72 hours in the event of a complete power failure. Featuring an Intel(R) XScale(TM) processor, the MegaRAID adapter offers a wide range of OS support, including Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003/2000/XP, Red Hat(R) AS Linux(R), Novell(R) Netware(R), SuSE(R) Professional Linux(R) and Linux(R) Enterprise Server (SLES) and FreeBSD(R).

LSI Logic storage component products are supplied to the channel in North America through distribution partners such as Arrow Electronics, ASI, Bell Microproducts, Insight Electronics, Ingram-Micro, Microland and Tech Data.
