The Society of Women Engineers Honors Linda Freeman with the Distinguished New Engineer Award

CHICAGO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Nov. 2, 2005— The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) today announced Linda A. Freeman one of the recipients of the 2005 Distinguished New Engineer Award for successfully merging engineering and leadership skills in the technical sales arena, and for support of SWE student sections.

Freeman is senior sales engineer for Rockwell Automation. Freeman serves Rockwell in a variety of capacities including technical sales and support for the Allen-Bradley and Rockwell Software brands of products; supporting more than 500,000 different products and services; and drives the market plan for more than $6 million of business; and conducting market analysis to determine highest potential for company growth.

"Freeman is a role model for her colleagues and SWE members," says Ronna Robertson, president of the Society of Women Engineers. "She has shown by example that it's never too early to lead and make a difference."

Freeman's career at Rockwell Automation began in 1996. Through the years, Freeman has served in a variety of capacities, including district distributor sales engineer, and account sales engineer. During her tenure at Rockwell, Freeman has repetitively exceeded her sales quotas and continues to be more involved in corporate initiatives and recruiting activities.

"Linda has had large sales account responsibilities and has been successful in converting significant sales from our competition to Rockwell Automation," says Kathy Scheibe-Powell, director of technology and engineering services of Industrial Components for Rockwell Automation. "This requires significant technical knowledge of our products, as well as our competitors' products, and how the products function."

Freeman is also very active in professional organizations and community involvement. Among her professional affiliations, Freeman is involved in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Industry Applications Society (IEEE-IAS), the International Association of Amusement Parks of Americas, and the Society of Women Engineers, to name a few. Freeman is a dedicated SWE Life Member and has been involved at the section, region and national levels. She is also an active volunteer with Junior Achievement and the Orlando Jaycees.

Freeman earned her B.E. degree in electrical from Georgia Institute of Technology.

The Distinguished New Engineer Award honors women engineers who have been actively engaged in engineering, demonstrated outstanding technical performance, and have had no more than 10 years of cumulative engineering experience as of December 31 of the past year.

The Distinguished New Engineer Award will be formally presented Friday night, November 4, 2005, at SWE's National Conference Awards Banquet in Anaheim, Calif. The National Conference, "Women Engineers Leading Global Diversity," is being held at the Anaheim Convention Center, November 3-5, Anaheim. The more than 3,000 attendees include professionals from every discipline of the engineering profession and a large number of engineering students and educators. The 2006 Conference is scheduled for October 11-14 in Kansas City, Mo.
