February 24, 2015 -- A specialist in designing and manufacturing inspection tools, particularly for the motor industry, used WorkXplore 3D to launch a project for improving internal communications and external customer service.
Originally founded as Talleres Conesa, in Barcelona, Spain, in 1927, Tecnomatrix now has extensive experience in the mechanical engineering and mould-making sectors. Xavier Conesa, Managing Director of the family business, says WorkXplore is perfect for implementing the company’s strategy of sustained improvement. “We launched a project to improve internal communications between departments, as well as optimising communications and services to customers.”
The fast-acting software is designed to provide direct representation, analysis and collaborative addition of 3D CAD data without the need to acquire the original CAD software. He says: “It allows our Sales Department to open and consult any type of 3D CAD geometry from its native format. We can compare and show different versions of a model, analyse, measure and select any type of entity, as well as add annotations to provide feedback.”
A big advantage is the massive step the software has helped them take from a quality point of view in all sections of the company. “It’s become an essential tool for our everyday work, because other departments involved in the manufacturing process can also consult the CAD models for any project.”
For example, the Planning Department tracks and forecasts time on jobs properly, and the Purchasing Department generates all required fields for sub-contracted work. “Fitters, machine operators and inspectors all have the necessary project information and are able to create all the files that are needed by the dimensional control software.”
And he added that WorkXplore 3D is extremely user-friendly. “The learning curve and time it took us to adapt to it was very short. It’s been designed so that users who aren’t CAD experts can quickly and easily consult and analyse any type of 2D and 3D CAD file.
“It’s improved our teamwork considerably, in that it’s perfectly adapted to improve communication between departments and has considerably increased productivity and efficiency at right across the board of product development, including design, process development, manufacturing, quality control, sales, customer relations, product documentation, and many other aspects.”
The comprehensive set of analysis tools within WorkXplore 3D is particularly useful for helping manufacturers to appreciate any potential difficulties, to provide the most accurate quotations. Dynamic sectioning means the interior of a part or assembly can be examined quickly and precisely. Planar face, curve and minimum radius analysis provide a rapid way of evaluating the most time-consuming and problematic tasks.
Predefined scenes, including views of the model and different orientations, along with notes and dimensions, can all be added. And WorkXplore also generates a stand-alone application containing the 3D model and assemblies, which can be emailed. Recipients can immediately open and work on the file without having to dispose of the original CAD application in which the model was initially created.
Users can also generate exploded views or animated assembly movements, due to a fully functional animation kernel.
Part of the Vero Software Group, WorkXplore 3D is a 3D file viewer providing direct representation, analysis and collaborative addition of 3D CAD data, without the user needing the original CAD software. Vero has direct offices in the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, USA, Brazil, Netherlands, China, South Korea, Spain and India supplying products to more than 45 countries through its wholly owned subsidiaries and reseller network.
Vero is part of Hexagon (Nordic exchange: HEXA B), a leading global provider of design, measurement and visualisation technologies that enable customers to design, measure and position objects, and process and present data.
