Cypress Introduces Asynchronous SRAMs With On-Chip Error-Correcting Code for Superior Reliability

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- May 15, 2014 -- Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY), the Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) market leader, today announced the sampling of a 16 Mb Fast Asynchronous SRAM with Error-Correcting Code (ECC). The on-chip ECC feature enables the new SRAMs to provide the highest levels of data reliability, without the need for additional error correction chips -- simplifying designs and reducing board space. The devices ensure data reliability in a wide variety of industrial, military, communication, data processing, medical, consumer and automotive applications.

Soft errors caused by background radiation can corrupt memory content, resulting in a loss of critical data. A hardware ECC block in Cypress's new Asynchronous SRAMs performs all error correction functions inline, without user intervention, delivering best-in-class Soft Error Rate (SER) performance. The 16 Mb Fast Asynchronous SRAM achieves a 10-ns access time and is pin-compatible with current Asynchronous SRAMs, enabling customers to boost system reliability while retaining board layout.

Cypress has also introduced a new Fast SRAM with PowerSnooze™ family that combines the 10-ns access times of Fast SRAMs with low standby power comparable to that of Cypress's low-power MoBL® (More Battery Life™) SRAM family. PowerSnooze is an additional power-saving Deep Sleep mode that achieves 12 uA (typical) deep-sleep current for a 16 Mb SRAM. The 16 Mb Fast SRAM with PowerSnooze also offers on-chip ECC.

"Cypress is the world's undisputed asynchronous SRAM leader with more than 30 years of design and development experience to go with the industry's broadest portfolio," said Sunil Thamaran, senior director of the Asynchronous SRAM Business Unit at Cypress. "Our new 16 Mb Fast Asynchronous SRAMs with ECC provide single-chip, reliable memory solutions for high-speed applications. We look forward to expanding our ECC-enabled SRAM offerings."

The Cypress 16-Mbit Asynchronous SRAMs are offered in industry standard x8, x16 and x32 configurations. The devices operate at multiple voltages (1.8V, 3V, and 5V) over -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C (Industrial) and -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C (Automotive-E) temperature ranges.

Availability
The new 16 Mb Fast SRAM and 16 Mb Fast SRAM with PowerSnooze are currently sampling in industrial temperature grade, with production expected in October 2014. These devices will be available in RoHS compliant 48-pin TSOP I, 48-ball VFBGA, 119-ball BGA and 54-pin TSOP II packages.
