PLMIG publishes the PLM Financial Handbook [Lite]

Oxford, England. May 12, 2014 -- The PLMIG has published the Version 1.0 PLM Financial Handbook [Lite], which shows how to quantify PLM Benefits and incorporate them into PLM project and capital expenditure proposals.

At 72 pages, the Handbook not only contains Analysis and Metrics Algorithms to generate the financial figures, but also sets out a comprehensive, 4-stage methodology for generating the proposal documents and monitoring the success of the resulting projects.

Nevertheless, the Handbook is clear and concise enough to be used by new and early adopters of PLM, and contains an Executive Summary that can be printed as an extract to facilitate the initial user-vendor interactions.

This still leaves the question of how to motivate colleagues and senior managers into interviews and meetings, and how to set up a plan that results in a successful justification.

The 'Lite' methodology is structured around a specific set of required documents that must be produced during the various stages of the process. Templates are provided as part of the toolset, including:- The development of these documents from outline to completed form drives the process forward.

This represents the first ever neutral methodology for quantifying the Benefits of applying PLM. There is more material in the pipeline from the 2013 workshop series, and the full methodology will include formalised tools for working from a 'Validated Vision' through PLM Maturity and PLM Self-Assessment towards the long-term PLM and business aims.

The PLM Interest Group
The PLM Interest Group is the leading neutral industry group for PLM. It has developed the first ever PLM Governance Standard, together with a new generation of applied PLM material including the PLM Best Practice Library and the Path to PLM. Previously PLMIG workshop series have produced the PLM Benchmarking Handbook; the PLM Maturity Reference Manual; and the PLMuERP Handbook.
