A combination of FeatureCAM and two new five-axis machine tools has reduced the delivery time on a typical challenging part for the aerospace industry by about 60%, according to Bob Lewis Machine Co President, Jeff Lewis.

Tombstone machining and more

A new module has been added to Delcam for SolidWorks so it can now support tombstone machining. Other enhancements in the 2014 R2 version include new options for stock models, better support for holes from the SolidWorks Hole Wizard and more flexible Z-level roughing.

1,000 Delcam University courses for SkillsUSA

Delcam has donated over 1,000 Delcam University courses, with a total value close to $300,000, to the SkillsUSA partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives who are working together to ensure that America has a skilled workforce.

Lightweight metal additive manufacturing

The UK’s manufacturing sector is set to benefit from a major £887,000 research and development project called LIGHT. The project, to be managed by Delcam, will make a definitive step change to the current use of additive manufacture for lightweight metal products.

Five-axis machining demonstrations prepared by Matsuura and Delcam can now be seen on Delcam.TV at www.delcam.tv/matsuura-powermill. They highlight the five-axis machining strengths of the latest PowerMILL release with demonstrations on Matsuura’s LX-160, MX-520 and MX-850 machines.

International CAM competition

Zhao Shi Cheng, from Beijing Automatic Engineering School in China, was the winner of Delcam’s latest international student CAM competition, which was held at the company’s Birmingham headquarters earlier this year. Second and third places were taken by students from Korea.
