PLMIG announces PLM Financial Primer

Oxford, England. October 02, 2013

The PLM Interest Group announces the second deliverable from the PLM Financial Framework initiative:- the PLM Financial Primer.

There are many misconceptions about PLM metrics, and it is important to start from the right basis. There are also many people who need to be involved, who all need a common understanding of what the PLM Team is trying to achieve.

The PLM Financial Primer explains the whole scenario, capturing the results from the Manchester and Toulouse workshops and expressing the principles and issues at a level that everyone can understand. Most importantly, it shows how current methods based on "scorecard" or "questionnaire" type assessments are not only sub-optimal, but can weaken the overall development of PLM.

The Primer is at its final review stage, and will be published as the Q2 2013 PLM Journal within the next two weeks. Together with the Financial Systems Appreciation Handbook it will become part of the working material for the next workshops in the series ( MCADCafe Sept. 11).

These will focus on the techniques the PLM Team can use to set up proper financial management of their PLM implementation, and will be a major step forward in the process of establishing an industry-standard cost-benefit mechanism for PLM, and providing the financial proof of PLM benefits.

More information is available on the PLMIG web site, or via Email Contact.
