AMIQ EDA Announces Cross-Language Capabilities for Mixed-Language Projects

October 25, 2012, Bucharest, Romania – AMIQ EDA, a pioneer in integrated development environments (IDEs) for hardware design and verification, today announced cross-language capabilities for mixed-language projects in its Design and Verification Tools (DVT) IDE. These capabilities enable engineers to navigate seamlessly through large multi-language projects and easily see the big picture and understand the whole design.

The DVT IDE is a powerful and complete development environment for the e language SystemVerilog, Verilog, and VHDL. It increases the speed and quality of code development, simplifies the maintenance of reusable libraries and legacy code, and accelerates language and methodology learning. 

Cristian Amitroaie, CEO of AMIQ EDA said: “Previous versions of the DVT IDE allowed users to work on projects that contained source code written in multiple languages, such as e, SystemVerilog, Verilog, and VHDL. However, some of the IDE’s specific editing and navigation features were restricted to the scope of a single language. Our goal has been to improve the cross-language integration and will continue to focus on this topic, in order to support the design and verification teams that have new or legacy code written in multiple languages, to increase their productivity.”  

With the newly added capabilities for mixed-language support, features like hyperlinks, design hierarchy browsing, module diagrams, and signal tracing work across SystemVerilog/Verilog and VHDL sources. For example, one can click on a module instance in Verilog and jump to its VHDL definition.

In the new version of DVT, most of the configuration options are unified. As such, the compilation directives for any language can be specified in a single file; DVT will automatically invoke the right compiler.

In addition to the pre-existing "e Language", "SystemVerilog" and "VHDL" perspectives, now DVT offers a unified tool perspective, which enables all GUI features to work seamlessly across languages. For example, one can browse all types across languages and quickly locate structs, modules, classes, entities or any other relevant elements.
