Mindspeed Expands Burst-Mode Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA) Family

Burst-Mode TIA Family Targets Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and Next Generation Gigabit Optical Network (XG-PON1) Applications

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 6, 2012Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, has extended its burst-mode TIA family for optical line termination (OLT) equipment with a 1.25 Gbps TIA targeted at widely deployed GPON applications and a 2.5 Gbps TIA for next-generation XG-PON1 applications.

Mindspeed will be highlighting its M02036 burst-mode TIA for GPON OLT applications and M02035 burst-mode TIA for XG-PON1 OLT applications at the 14th Annual China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE), Sept. 6-9, 2012, in Hall 1, Booth#1A76 at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, China. The company will also be showcasing its companion burst-mode laser drivers, along with other members of its family of physical media dependent (PMD) solutions for Gigabit Ethernet PON (GEPON), GPON, XG-PON and 10Gbps Ethernet PON (10G-EPON) applications.

Technical Details

The new Mindspeed burst-mode TIAs offer superior optical sensitivity of -33 dBm for the M02036 GPON OLT TIA and -29 dBm for the M02035 XG-PON1 OLT TIA. The TIAs feature excellent overload performance with wide dynamic range of greater than 25 dB and fast output settling times. Both TIA outputs can be used in either single-ended or differential configurations for design flexibility.

The new M02036 and M02035 devices also feature a burst mode average power monitor output that enables receivers to report upstream optical network unit (ONU) optical transmit power. This eliminates complex and expensive external circuitry that previously was added to OLT modules in order to perform this function.

Product Availability

Mindspeed’s M02035 and M02036 TIAs are currently in volume production.
