Daratech Findings Underscore Bentley Plant Leadership Positions

With Record Revenues, Bentley Recognized as Leading Vendor to Owner-Operators and Ahead of Intergraph in PLM/AECO Category

HOUSTON—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Jan. 20, 2004— The just-released findings of market researcher Daratech, Inc. underscore Bentley's leadership positions in the plant software market. According to the report, Bentley's record 2003 revenues place the company as the leading vendor to owner-operators, ahead of Intergraph in the broadest category (PLM/AECO), and within 20 percent of first-place Intergraph and more than double any other vendor in the category of user spending for plant creation software.

In keeping with daratechPLANT2004's theme of asset lifecycle management, Daratech introduced the category of plant creation software sold to owner-operators. Increasingly, owner-operators, whose ROI is at stake, require lifecycle management support in the design deliverables from their engineering/procurement contractors (EPCs). Daratech recognized Bentley as the leader in this market-driving category, reporting that owner-operators invested more in Bentley's software/services than those of all other vendors combined.

According to Daratech, Bentley also ranked as the leading software/service provider in:

-- Plant-specific Platforms

-- Conceptual Plant Creation

-- Process and Instrumentation Diagram Creation

Bentley products in these three categories include MicroStation(R), PlantSpace(R) for MicroStation users, and AutoPLANT(R) for AutoCAD(R) users.

"This year's market standings and the buzz at the daratechPLANT conference lead to the conclusion that Bentley has emerged as a leading participant and visionary in the plant lifecycle and AECO markets," commented Charles Foundyller, president and CEO of Daratech, Inc. "Bentley's very compelling path forward is based on its unmatched footprint in EPC platforms and owner-operator solutions, strengthened by the inclusion of ESSI's data warehousing into an already comprehensive portfolio."

He concluded, "We expect that all major EPCs and owner-operators are taking a serious look at the Bentley vision and product offerings, which promise to lead to enhanced financial performance through the elimination of engineering overhead."

ENR 500/Global 150 Awards

Today, Bentley and McGraw Hill recognize the world's top-ranked EPC firms at the second annual reception for attendees representing firms placed in Engineering News-Record's Top 500 Design Firms and the just-published ENR Top 150 Global Design Firms (Global 150). ENR publisher Jay McGraw will be on hand to present commemorative plaques signifying the occasion.

The Global 150 rely primarily on Bentley AEC software. Seven out of every eight of them - accounting for 95 percent of the Global 150 design billings - invested in the Bentley software portfolio during 2003. That group averages more than 300 Bentley seats per firm. Also, more than two-thirds of the ENR Top Owners in plant invested in Bentley solutions during 2003, averaging more than 150 seats of Bentley software to create and maintain their AEC content.

Bentley Plant

Bentley Plant is the company's organization that provides vertical solutions for industrial and process plants.

Bentley Plant credits its continuing success to allowing owner-operators and EPCs to effectively manage risk and maximize reward by providing choices in key areas, including: a continuous evolutionary approach to technology advance; support for DWG, DGN, and Adobe's PDF file formats; a common platform for all their AEC business areas; and a globally scalable managed environment for distributed engineering.

An important aspect of choice for user organizations is Bentley's ELS (Enterprise License Subscription) Program(SM), under which users access Bentley's entire portfolio of software products for a fixed, annual fee. Organizations participating in the ELS program can increase their software productivity and reduce their total AEC software costs simultaneously. The unlimited access streamlines software administration while the annual term simplifies budgeting and accounting. Already, six of the Global 150 (including three of the top 20) have entered into ELS agreements with Bentley.

In related news, Bentley today announced ELS signings with Foster Wheeler (17 in the Global 150) and with Public Service Electric and Gas Company.
