MSI Products, a division of Dixie Iron Works, faces the challenge of building products for the oil and gas producing industries with very complex geometries in relatively low volumes. In the past, this meant the company’s programmers had to defi ne each machine movement with a line of G-code. The company tried working with programming software that was unable to import the complex assembly models needed to defi ne the company’s products or support the full functionality of its advanced CNC machine tools. Recently MSI switched to new programming software that can import complicated assembly models and is designed to work with advanced machine tools. The result is substantial reductions in programming time, such as a reduction in the time required to program the fl uid end of an oil fi eld pump from 25 hours to eight hours.
