Review

With literally hundreds of examples of maps that can help planners to anticipate hazards, or help politicians to distort their cases, the author presents a compelling modern-day version of the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words. But let me add that the words in this book are pretty good too, and a treatise that could easily have been as dry as dust is brought to life by Monmonier's colourful examples and deft touch with the pen. Even if you're not interested in maps, you are almost certainly interested in hazards. And this book is one of the best places I've seen to learn about them in a highly entertaining and informative fashion.
