From End-to-End Industry Solutions to 5G, Here’s a Look at Simulation for 2019
Industry leaders in 2019 face increasing societal and process challenges as they develop highly complex products and solutions in an extremely competitive and regulated environment. They are looking for partners to help accelerate innovation, manage complexity and increase confidence in their processes. At the same time, they are looking to reduce costs, time to market and risks.
SIMULIA – with its comprehensive simulation portfolio – will work closely with companies this year to offer high value solutions to industry process requirements for virtual testing throughout the product development cycle:
Cloud High Performance Computing (HPC)
One of the barriers to large-scale physics simulation, design of experiments and optimization, has been the lack of on-premise HPC, particularly at startups and SMBs, who need these resources at the earliest design phases. A recent solution is cloud-based HPC. Companies can leverage these resources on-demand, at scale and use the best computing architecture to match their particular requirement. Even larger companies can benefit from hybrid cloud/on-premise usage as their own datacenters reach capacity.
For 2019, SIMULIA will continue its focus on cloud HPC available through the cloud native 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including its simulation data science capabilities. This combination will democratize simulation deliverables to all stakeholders in a collaborative and managed environment with a single source of truth for data.
End-to-End Industry Solutions
Simulation offerings are typically general-purpose, file-based, point tools that solve a variety of numerical problems to meet specific engineering objectives. This approach, while successful in solving the immediate challenges at hand, creates a series of silos in a product development process. The product lifecycle becomes complex, inefficient and, hence, affects the decision-making process at the business level.
To address this need, SIMULIA with its portfolio of products at multiple scales and physics will deliver end-to-end solutions. Using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform as a single source of truth, a model-based approach to industry processes will enable the decision-making process from design to manufacturing to in-service usage of the products. This approach will ultimately address the complete value chain that includes strategic thinking, ideation, design and optimization, manufacturing, delivery and tactical sales and marketing (see graphic).
5G, IoT and the 3DEXPERIENCE Twin
While 5G is in its infancy in widespread commercial application, the development pace is rapid, and the technology will be industry and life changing. SIMULIA through its electromagnetics portfolio will be a major partner to companies developing 5G and related applications, such as the delivery of integrated antenna engineering and certification.
Ultimately, 5G will enable rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), which when tied together, will start to create the Internet of Experiences (IoE), all ultimately leading to efficiencies and quality of life improvements. Through 5G and IoT, the 3DEXPERIENCE Twin, a virtual replica of a real-world system that’s in development or in-service, will become ubiquitous and offer unparalleled insight into real-world performance and service life.
