learning solid edge v20
It is a very useful book with a lot of information in it. It could have used a better index with items. You have to sort thru the book to find commands and such.

For Raw Beginners only
Other than rudimentary "pick and click" instructions there was very little that will help you to learn the program on your own. I would recommend this for only the most novice users. There is no reason why we are using the commands it is more of a "monkey se- monkey do" procedure and I can see no way the average or even above average student could ever learn Solid Edge with this book alone.

Basic no frills introduction to Solid Edge
If you no little to nothing about solid modeling and you're just starting out with Solid Edge this book will at least teach you to be functional using the software. Once you've made it through you'll be able to get around the menus and create parts. Once you've done that you can either tinker with the program yourself and use the built in tutorials or get a more advanced book. I think this book was written with the assumption that you have some drawing experience and you know how to engineer a part or mechanism at least with a pencil or some other CAD program.

For rank beginners only...
It took about five minutes to see this book was very weak in delivering on it's promise of "developing a mastery of Solid Edge", as stated inside the front cover. I am an experienced SolidWorks user doing machine design, and need to learn this program to do my job. If you are expecting anything beyond the most basic operations, you will be very disappointed. On the plus side, for newbes, it has tons of pictures and little else. If you don't know a thing about solid modeling, it should at least get you started.
