Chicago's Convention Business: Good News from the Bad NewsIt isn't often that trade shows and conventions are front page news, but recent developments have placed the industry in that position in Chicago. Two announcements, the first by the HIMSS Show (Healthcare), then the second a week later by the SPI Show (Plastics) that they are departing McCormick Place for Las Vegas and Orlando, respectively, have created a media storm around the operators of McCormick Place, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA). While the departure of these shows has focused more attention on the problems, IMTS show management has been an active participant in a number of efforts to improve services at McCormick Place.
