Mechanical Dynamics Releases Dynamic Designer For Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 6

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Mechanical Dynamics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDII - news) announces the release of Dynamic Designer for Autodesk Mechanical Desktop® 6 from Autodesk, Inc., featuring 3D contact modeling.

Providing dynamic motion simulation capabilities seamlessly integrated within the Autodesk Mechanical Desktop platform, Dynamic Designer 2001 for Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 6 accurately and efficiently models mechanisms with gears, cams, latches, belts, and chains by using 3D contact functionality. Users will now see the accurate motion created by contacting parts and be able to plot associated engineering data. Creating contact induced motion is as simple as selecting two or more solid bodies and indicating the associated materials. The output is accurate motion and force plots.

"The new 3D contact functionality will significantly increase the efficiency of modeling mechanisms in general machinery markets such as custom machinery and electromechanical devices," said Alan Wegienka, vice president of Mechanical Dynamics' Design Technology Division.

A powerful and flexible 3D solid modeling system built on the AutoCAD® 2002 foundation, Autodesk Mechanical Desktop unites 2D and 3D design within the AutoCAD foundation, offering 2D, 3D wireframe, 3D surface, and parametric solids modeling.

"We're pleased that Mechanical Dynamics continues to offer world-class mechanism simulation tools inside Autodesk manufacturing products," said Robert Kross, vice president of the manufacturing division at Autodesk. "The new functionality in this release will make it even easier for our customers to understand the function of their assemblies."

Mechanical Dynamics is an Autodesk Manufacturing Application Initiative (MAI) partner, contributing to the complete Autodesk manufacturing solution. Using consistent development guidelines, MAI partners create "best-of-class" applications for design, mechanisms, analysis, and manufacturing that are seamlessly integrated with Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, the best-selling parametric feature-based solid and surface modeling solution for mechanical design on the PC.

Current Dynamic Designer for Autodesk Mechanical Desktop customers with maintenance contracts will receive the new update automatically.
