EMA Adds Future Electronics Part Database Interface to Their Component Data Management Solution

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 22, 2010 — EMA Design Automation( www.ema-eda.com), a full-service provider of electrical and mechanical CAD tools, today announced the addition of Future Electronics to the list of component distributors included in the new 4.0 version of Component Information Portal (CIP), EMA’s component data management solution which provides design teams an automated method to manage their electronic part data. CIP is tightly integrated with Cadence® OrCAD® Capture CIS providing access to component distributor data directly within the OrCAD design environment, improving both data accuracy and operating efficiency.

“Since its initial release in July of 2008, customer adoption of CIP continues to increase because customers see real value in an out-of-the-box data management solution,” said Manny Marcano, president and CEO of EMA Design Automation. “With CIP, engineers are able to benefit from all the advantages that come with a centralized part library without having to become bogged down with designing and implementing a component database from scratch.”

CIP 4.0 adds the ability to search parametric data from the Future Electronics part catalog to its existing list of supported distributors, Digi-Key, Newark, and Premier Farnell. Users have online access to these part distributor databases allowing them to easily find available parts that meet their performance and financial requirements directly from their engineering desktop. With CIP 4.0, users can extend their part search across multiple distributors simultaneously to see which vendor best meets their needs. Once the desired part is found, CIP enables automatic download of the selected device parametric data directly into the component database; saving time and avoiding data entry errors that are common with manual methods. This data is then immediately available to design engineers directly within OrCAD Capture CIS. Since the parametric information has been collected from the part distributor this also provides purchasing with correct manufacturer and distributor part numbers, part costs, and available quantities to avoid component problems that can occur after the design is complete.

Going beyond distributor import functionality, CIP provides advanced component data management capabilities. Design teams can easily import external data into the component database, define user roles, and track database changes to keep everyone in synch as the design progresses. With CIP, users are provided with an automated methodology to implement, populate, and access their part data while ensuring consistency and proper design practices are being maintained.

“The integration of our part numbers and inventory information with EMA CIP significantly improves the accuracy of the Bill of Materials (BOM) for our customers,” said Tom Galligani, Regional VP of Sales at Future Electronics. “This dramatically reduces the cost for both the customer and supplier when quoting, and provides the EMS partner with an accurate BOM for production. With the ever changing landscape of supply chains, these types of tools are essential to supply chain management needs.”

EMA also enables design teams to further extend data management to the corporate level by tying their engineering database into enterprise systems like ERP, MRP, and PLM using the Enterprise Link™ module. This integration gives teams the ability to access engineering and related corporate data together; all while remaining within the OrCAD Capture CIS environment. Utilizing the Enterprise Link module ensures that engineering can design with corporate requirements in mind and easily generate compliant BOMs that consist solely of parts that meet corporate standards. This capability is available as a separate option and can be purchased with or without CIP.
