PolyOne and MPC Inc. Produce Eco-Friendly Engine Cover for Award-Winning Ford Fusion Hybrid

Ford Fusion Hybrid gets a premium metallic look under hood using less energy and eliminating environmental risks associated with paint

CLEVELAND, Jan. 28 — (PRNewswire) — Leading automotive manufacturer MPC Inc. (Walworth, WI) and PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL) created an eco-friendly engine cover for the award-winning 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.  Earlier this month, the Ford Fusion Hybrid was named the North American Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show.  The Fusion was also recently named the Motor Trend® Car of the Year and was one of the top 10 selling cars in the United States in 2009.

PolyOne, a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, teamed up with MPC, a top-tier North American automotive manufacturer and Ford World Excellence supplier, to design the metallic-look engine cover with a reduced carbon footprint. MPC molds the engine cover from a metallic-effect PolyOne compound (Maxxam™ FX Metal), which mimics the luster of painted polymer versions, yet eliminates the extra energy requirements and environmental challenges of traditional manufacturing and painting processes.

"This project underscores our focus on innovation and eco-friendly technologies," said Doug Callahan, MPC's vice president of engineering. "It also demonstrates the level of success that can be reached with these types of collaborative relationships."

"PolyOne is committed to helping our customers win by creating sustainable solutions," said Craig Nikrant, PolyOne's president of Global Specialty Engineered Materials.  "Each component of the award-winning Ford Fusion Hybrid contributes to its market success and critical acclaim.  PolyOne is proud to play a leadership role in engineering an innovative technology that addresses the environmental goals we all share."
