Ready At Dawn Studios to Integrate Autodesk Maya with the Developer’s Upcoming Console Game Development Platform

IRVINE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — December 17, 2009 — Acclaimed independent console game developer Ready At Dawn Studios has named Autodesk as the first of its software technology partners for the Ready At Dawn Engine, the company’s upcoming comprehensive and fully integrated console game development platform designed for the creation of cutting-edge AAA interactive entertainment. The studio will work to integrate Ready At Dawn Engine’s game editing environment with Autodesk Maya software, with the intention of providing an interface for modeling, level design, animation and game design tasks.

Ready At Dawn Engine’s integration with Maya is expected to include editing and workflow enhancements geared specifically toward game development: mesh/UI editing, lighting, character rigging, game entities and AI editing. It is also anticipated that the integration of the engine’s renderer with Maya should allow for editing tasks to be done in a WYSIWYG environment and real-time in-engine preview of game levels and art. Furthermore, the integration is also intended to feature data-driven user interface reflecting the current editable fields of game entities and properties.

“The time for hard-to-learn, hard-to-use proprietary editing environments is over. Thanks to Maya we hope to be able to offer an industry standard editing environment in which to perform game editing tasks, from modeling to level and game design,” Didier Malenfant, president, Ready At Dawn Studios, said. “We have seen first hand with our internal teams how powerful this integration is and are excited that we should be able to provide developers with the ability to create and edit game content in one place.”

“At Autodesk, we know how important it is for game developers to have a comprehensive, fully-integrated game platform,” said Marc Stevens, Autodesk vice president, Games. “The proposed integration of the Ready At Dawn Engine’s complete game editing environment with Maya should give game designers, level designers and everyone on a game development team access to Maya software’s world-class editing environment. This should give development teams a single workflow, with no need for back and forth exporting between separate applications.”

Ready At Dawn Engine offers a flexible data-driven tool pipeline and a high performance true console engine with support for the Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PSP. The studio will offer tailored evaluations of each project’s needs, simple licensing models, world-class support, and the studio’s core value of a no-nonsense approach.
