UNLV Students Utilize CrimeView Community

Enrollment at the University of Nevada, - May 7, 2008 - Las Vegas recently exceeded 27,000 students. In addition to registering for classes, paying for tuition and choosing a major; newly enrolled students face another challenge. Locating safe and affordable housing in Las Vegas can be a daunting task for the uninitiated.

Las Vegas is one of the fastest growing urban areas in America and UNLV’s 350 acre campus located near the world famous “Strip” puts housing at a premium. Students who are able to locate affordable housing have discovered CrimeView Community to be an invaluable resource in determining whether an area is safe. Many UNLV online chat rooms and discussion forums now recommend CrimeView Community to new students in order to help them research safe housing options. Incidents of crime can be mapped out online near any address or landmark in the city. The system is regularly updated with current information and users can go back as far as sixty days when searching for specific crimes.

Our primary goal in implementing CrimeView Community was to help Las Vegas law enforcement enhance their public policing efforts. We never anticipated the many ways the general population would be able maximize our online mapping applications.”
