COO Robert Bean to Detail Immediate Advantages of Using New Technologies to Retrieve and Work with Legacy Data
Kubotek was invited to participate in this annual strategic conference because of its efforts to address CAD interoperability challenges. Bean's presentation, titled "To Remaster or Not to Remaster: Get What You Need, When You Need It, from Legacy Data," will explore why problems concerning data exchange, access, integrity and the ability to remaster continue to mount. These are the issues costing engineers valuable time that could be invested in new product design efforts.
"CAD was supposed to make life easier for designers and engineers," stated Robert Bean, chief operating officer of Kubotek USA. "On average, half of all CAD professionals completely rework at least one model a week because they cannot access legacy or imported design data. Those engineers don't necessarily view that as a problem, but they should. As an industry, we must understand how much time might be saved if we could import and use the geometry of a design. To remain competitive in an increasingly 24/7 global marketplace, CAD users need to investigate solutions that leverage existing data resources, improve productivity and provide the flexibility to add value."
Recently, Kubotek released the results of its 2006 CAD Interoperability Survey. The survey found that 50 percent of the nearly 3,000 respondents had to redesign a new part or tool from existing or received 3D CAD models on at least a weekly basis. In addition to providing a general overview of interoperability and legacy issues facing the industry today, the survey provides a detailed investigation of issues which may limit a CAD user's effectiveness.
