Through the end of 2006, Rohm will replace all remaining 2D seats at the company's three development sites throughout Germany.
"The original decision to move to Solid Edge was based on the combined 2D and 3D functionality. While our manufacturing process is based on 2D drawings, our customers are requesting 3D models of their chucking tools," says Armin Schmid, head of Information Technology at Rohm. Rohm began to standardize on Solid Edge nearly three years ago, following an evaluation by Rohm that analyzed Solid Edge and other leading high-end 3D CAD systems against the requirements for designing drill chucks, revolving tailstock centers, lathe chucks, power chucks and roboter peripheries. In the benchmark study between the systems, conducted by designers in different sites, Solid Edge was the winner. Subsequently, the existing Helix(TM) 2D seats, no longer supported by the supplier, are being steadily replaced with Solid Edge. A direct interface to SAP/R3 addresses the management of PDF drawings and 3D models.
