Capvidia Releases FormatWorks 2013
Extended MBD Functionality for SolidWorks Users
Leuven, Belgium, April 2, 2013 - Capvidia announces release of its FormatWorks product suite for SolidWorks 2013. This release provides extended MBD (Model Based Definition) functionality for native CATIA V5, Creo/Pro-E, Siemens NX, and STEP API 242 CAD formats with the ability to read PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) into SolidWorks and maintain the semantic links between 3D model and related PMI metadata.
FormatWorks is a SolidWorks Certified Gold Product Add-in that solves frustrating data translation problems for SolidWorks users. It extends the SolidWorks capability by providing automatic, accurate, and reliable bi-directional CAD data translation. Automatic repair and healing ensures that imported 3D CAD models including IGES and STEP meet the criteria set by SolidWorks to form valid solids without any deformation.
FormatWorks provides extended support of native CAD formats CATIA V4 ,CATIA V5, Siemens NX, Inventor, Creo/Pro-E that are limited or not available in SolidWorks. It supports full Model Based Definition (MBD) information such as, PMI, FT&A, and GD&T.
Semantic PMI in SolidWorks
FormatWorks provides direct access to manufacturing information and other annotations stored together with the 3D models in native CAD data. The Annotation Set includes text, datum, datum targets, geometrical tolerances, flag notes, linear dimensions, angular dimensions, radial dimensions, roughness, and more. The user has access to the Annotation Set via the FormatWorks project tree for inspection, visualization and selection. The semantic link between the annotations is maintained, which enables to the user to select and highlight the geometry associated with annotation in the SolidWorks.
Other FormatWorks Enhancements
FormatWorks also contains the following enhancements:
- Local Coordinate Systems – Translates the definition of local coordinate systems from native CAD data, often used to show the position of tool for manufacturing purposes, etc. This new feature is available for CATIA V5, Creo/Pro-E, and Siemens NX native formats.
- Assembly Configurations – Now supports multiple assembly configurations and gives you the option to import that last active configuration (default) or select from multiple configurations. This new feature is available for Creo/Pro-E, and Siemens NX native formats only.
- STEP AP 242– Supports both semantic and non-semantic PMI representations for STEP AP 242 standard.
- STEP 214 DIN 4003 - Supports object parameters including coordinate systems, cutting edge color, blade curve color, and other characteristics.
FormatWorks is available in different configurations: FormatWorks Standard, FormatWorks Professional, and FormatWorks Float, and FormatWorks Server/Client in both 32 and 64 bit platforms.
